January, 09 is almost a memory!

With all the bad news going on, with the economy, and the weather up north, we almost feel guilty. Well almost!! We are having such a good time here and enjoying the weather. Our winter so far has been great with only one cold front that went to the freeze mode, but none of that white stuff ! Our neighbor was kind enough to protect our tomato plant in his shed when there was a threat of frost. We had three days of bringing it in and out. We now have a few small tomatoes, that we are watching. It won't be long and they will be ready for a BLT.
We really enjoy having a "home base". It gives us time to enjoy new found friends, and to check out the surrounding area. The Malibu needed to be serviced because of all the miles we have put on driving to the different sites on either coast and in central Florida.
The pictures posted pretty much tell it all ! We took a day to visit Highland Hammock State Park with five other couples from the park. Who would have thought Carol and I would do nine miles on our little bikes ?? Our biking was fun and of course the nine miles was in segments, so was doable for us. We also took a couple of the trails through some very interesting landscape. Lots of cypress swamps and we did see an alligator.
It looks like we will have anouther cold front coming thru for superbowl weekend, but nothing like the last one.
Our happy hour the other day became talent night as some of the group showed their talent. They are great and you would need to be here to appreciate how enjoyable they are !
Ken brought out his Digerydoo the othere day. What a riot! On our trip in the northeast we experienced an Austrailian band that played those things. Now I can appreciate even more someone playing that instrument because it takes a lot of "wind" to get the correct sound.
We are staying busy, and looking foward to the rest of our winter. The days are going fast and it's hard to believe that January is history already!
