Life is good! We are enjoying our winter here in Lake Placid Florida. Our area is now full with the last space filled Saturday. We took a trip to Ft Pierce with our friends Ed and Diane. It was a nice ride about sixty miles from here. We decided to make this run because our motor home had developed a miss in the engine on the way down to Florida and the closest place for repair was Fort Pierce. We took some pictures of the restaurant where we had our lunch, and a nearby beach. At Conchy Joe's it was our first experience with conch chowder--mmm good! A week later we returned with our home. We needed to get this fixed while the motor home chassis was under warranty.
We visited a large flea market in Ft Myers. We took three vehicles as twelve of us went. We then stopped at a barbeque place called "Rib City"-- good stuff ! The following Saturday a bunch of us went to Sebring to a "rib cookoff" at the fairgrounds--more good chow. The following day we went for brunch by the Sebring International Racetrack and did get to see some race cars, doing time trials. The time is just flying by. Hard to believe that January is almost over.
Last week we took another road trip to the west coast . I think it's called Ellington Outlet Mall. The women shopped and the guys kinda tagged along. We had a light lunch in the food court and then went to an oyster bar before heading back to Lake Placid. We enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner.
Sadly, we have a cold front hanging on for the past week. Chad, Heather, Cody, and Casey were staying at Ft. Myers Beach for five days this past weekend. We got to spend an enjoyable day with them ! They had a nice condo on the beach. There is definitely a lot more traffic on the Gulf Coast than in this area. If you look at the pictures you will see how different the beaches on the east and west coasts look. The Gulf Coast is beautiful, powdery white sand while the Atlantic Coast is darker and more like gravel.
There is a space shuttle due to be launched on February 12. We're hoping to take another trip to the Atlantic coast to witness that event. We know that we won't be close, but it still should be a memorable experience.
So, as we said, life here is good and we aren't missing the cold and snow at all!
