Just when we thought we had seen all the breathtaking scenery in this area, we headed for Sedona. Well, that area is known for the red-rock. Talk about beautiful--we stopped more times for pictures than we had before. The red-rock comes from ancient deposits of limestone, mudstone and sandstone. One can still see the ruins of the Indians that were the first inhabitants of this area.
Our breakfast stop on the way was in Black Canyon City. It wasn't much of a city and the main mode of transportation seemed to be four wheelers! We stopped at an Amish restaurant, of all things! About 40 years ago, an Amish couple left Ohio and settled in Arizona. The restaurant is now run by their daughter. Good chow!!!
We visited the Chapel of the Holy Cross that features a cross that juts out from a 1,000 foot rock wall. This was well worth the stop. When you view the pictures, you will also see a formation called Cathedral Rock.
After stopping at several other spots for pictures, we made it into the city of Sedona. There are lots of shops to venture through, but we resisted the temptations to buy any more trinkets.
We had another mission that day. We wanted to visit the old mining town of Jerome. During it's prime, Jerome was one of the most famous mining camps in the country. Today, perched on the side of a mountain, which, by the way, is quite "interesting" to reach, it is home to many art galleries and small shops. We stopped here and I had a bloody mary while Roy imbibed with a diet Coke.
Sedona is about 180 miles from our park, so needless to say, that was quite a long day. Abby was very glad to see us!
Roy has been spending time in the woodcarving shop here in the park. He ended up buying some tools from one of the fellows here that is no longer interested in the craft. Roy says there is a lot to learn, but he seems to be doing a very nice job.
We did go to a large flea market not far from our park. Guess it's called a swap meet here, but it was a flea market in our eyes. Roy bought some "guy stuff" and that was about it.
We've met some nice folks here in the park ,but have elected not to get to involved with most of the activities. Our time here is short, with much to see yet! We went to an RV show in Glendale (suburb west of Phoenix). It did leave a bit to be desired, but we got to go on quite a few rigs. There were no vendors which is something we both enjoy.
Enjoy the pictures! We actually did eliminate some of them!
