Port Isabel and S Padre Island

Well, we have really enjoyed the snowbird thing thus far. Yesterday we didn't do much , rode the bikes thru the park . We found quite a few folks with mature tomato plants, and we didn't realize poinsettia plants were actually trees! We will send pictures later.
Just down the road from us is a place called the Lone Star, ( not the chain ). Great food-- all buns, and breads fresh baked. So much for dieting!! Temps made it to to 77.
Today we went to Port Isabel, and on to South Padre Island, only about 40 miles from here. Roy went up the historical light house. He kinda wished he didn't because he doesn't like heights. When Carol saw the steep spiral steps that were see through, she said "no way"! South Padre Island is pretty commercialized, but the county park is six miles of beach. Then the road just ends!! We were told if you had a four wheeler, you could go another twenty miles. On the way back we stopped at a turtle rescue place which was very interesting. We spotted a KOA park just off the bridge to the island, looked like large sites . At the end of the park, there is a restaurant called Fish Bones on the water, so we had lunch --chicken tortilla soup, and corn bread. Carol's still patting her forehead, but good! Everything down here seems to be served with hot salsa (very different from ours) and the not very spicy to the folks here, is really pretty HOT! Even the bloodymarys!!
