This past Thursday we boarded a tour bus at 6:30 a.m bound for Monterrey, Mexico. Monterrey is the third largest city in Mexico and is surrounded by mountains. We crossed the border at Reynosa (just south of McAllen) and drove 150 miles to Monterrey. The first item was a boat ride which started at the site of a steel mill that had been torn down and the Paseo Santa Lucia (Monterrey's River Walk) was created. Very beautiful sights and the Mexican folks are very proud of this creation. We got to see some sights in the city while on the bus--some old churches, etc. Monterrey is 400 years old this year! We got to tour the Governor's Palace and Plaza where there are several statues of historical value. Then lunch was a delicious buffet at the Radisson Hotel which was built in 1912. Supposedly Poncho Villa rode his horse through the front doors and shot several rounds into the bar. The floor was beautiful black marble and the entire staircase is also marble. From there we went up into the mountains to Horse Tail Falls. The road was quite "exciting"--very narrow with some switchbacks which were difficult enough to maneuver with a small car, let alone a 45 foot bus!! Our bus driver did a great job. The walk back to the falls was unique also--a cobblestone walkway and quite a few steps made of the same cobblestones! But the falls was beautiful and well worth the walk. We arrived home at 10 p.m. that night. Some of the attached pictures were taken from the bus, decided not to try to edit.
Friday we picked up Harry and Bobbi at a Best Western on Rt. 1015 and went to Progeso, Mexico. Carol's dentist appointment was for 10 a.m. to get her new bridge. All went very well! I decided to get a haircut. Four bucks, and also had my shoes shined. After tip it cost me a whole seven dollars. Shoes shined, hair's short--what more can one ask for!! We came back to Mercedes for lunch, then said our good-byes to Harry and Bobbi. They will be heading north slowly.
Friday evening we went to "happy hour", then to the Elks for fish, and shrimp. Today Saturday we went to a craft show, then caught up on the house cleaning, and other things that needed attention.
