Northward Bound

Tuesday we traveled from San Antonio to Beaumont, Texas and stayed at Gulf Shores RV Resort. It was only $17.00 with cable, wifi and breakfast furnished. We went to Pappadeaux’s for a real Cajun meal. We had catfish, crawfish and crawfish bisque, and a nice salad. Lots of work for those crawfish, but they were delicious!
On Wednesday the folks at Gulf Shores let us check out at 1 pm instead of the normal 11 a.m. That gave us time to visit the McFaddin- Ward Mansion, and grab some groceries on the way back. The mansion was very interesting. All the furniture, fixtures and knick-knacks were original to the home. We only traveled 100 miles after leaving Texas to Kinder, Louisiana. We stayed at Quiet Oaks RV Park which left a lot to be desired. Oh well, only stayed overnite. We did dine out again and had gumbo La. style Whew!!! A bit on the spicy side. Roy even had tears! Tomorrow on to Natchez, Mississippi.
Nice easy drive through Louisiana. Took Rt 165 to 28 to 84. Lots of construction but not bad and we got to see some of the countryside. Lots and lots of nurseries along the way. Seems like they could supply the entire country! We arrived at Natchez State Park. A nice park with a lake. We checked out the town of Natchez. Lots of old buildings and LARGE old homes. The Mississippi River is overflowing its banks and the current was very fast. Probably from all the snow melting up north. Tomorrow on to Timberlake in Jackson, Mississippi, where we are to meet up with our friends from Victoria Palms.
We had just started on the Natchez Trace when our friends called to say that John’s sister had just passed away. They had to make a quick trip to Houston, so we were unable to meet up with them. Well, Timberlake was full so we ended up at Springridge RV Park in Clinton, Miss. We did take the car to check out Timberlake and found that it is a very nice park on a huge reservoir. Today (Saturday) we are headed to Vicksburg to visit the military memorial park and have decided to move on tomorrow.
We will be continuing our trip north on the Natchez Trace to Tupelo, Mississippi. (Elvis’ birthplace). We plan to stay until Tuesday. We are staying at a state park so the computer will get some rest. No Cable, No Wifi !!! Oh well, there is nature and history to keep us busy!
