On to Lake Placid

We enjoyed our final day in Jackson, Ms. with our friends. We were invited to a nice lunch at their home, and then Sharron took Carol to meet her mom who is a healthy age of 99, and doesn't show her age at all. John and I just hung out enjoying a fine cigar on his patio, (the temp was 70). We ended the day by going to a nice Italian restaurant. Thursday a.m. we were on the road to Gulf Shores, Alabama. All went well until Mobile, Alabama. Millie(our GPS) was taking us to a tunnel, and then we saw the sign "No Trucks!" Did that mean busses too?? We took a right when she wanted us to go left and, of course, she didn't like that. The left turn took us into more traffic, narrower lanes, with low hanging tree branches. The CB antenna was clanging while hitting the branches, while I was trying to reset the GPS. Thankfully, we made it to Route 10, and on to Gulf Shores. I will not set that GPS for shortest route in a big city again, and I still don't know if we could have made the tunnel ! We stayed at Anchors Aweigh RV Park, where we stayed two years ago. Not much to report about G.S as we only stayed the one night. We did drive around to some familiar places before crashing. The beaches were still white and beautiful. The trip to Destin, Florida was an easy ride which took only a couple hours. Henderson State park had been recomended to us. We managed to get a pull thru close to the boardwalk taking us to the beach. The sand on the beach really looked like snow. It was very white and had drifted looking identical to the white stuff back home! We drove around the area, and found Santa Rosa beach area, loaded with some beautiful homes. Our lunch was at a resturant on the water, and the fresh seafood was excellent. We walked along the fishing boat charters catching one that just came in with a nice catch. Returning to our campsite , we walked to the beach to catch the beautiful sunset. December 7th found us on the road again . I misjudged the traffic, and distance to Ocala, Fla. so, seven hours later we arrived at Wilderness RV Park. We stayed put, enjoying cable, and wifi ! Went to the onsite restaurant for breakfast, then set Millie for Lake Placid. We are now at our winter destination. We originally only had reservations till Jan. 8th, then Sunshine RV till April. We were uneasy about Sunshine, so we took a ride to check it out. We were right about our uneasyness. We drove to the west coast to check out some RV parks, only to find the good ones to be full. We extended our stay here at Camp Florida . We were invited to join our new neighbors for evening cocktails. Everyone here seems to be very nice. We think we will enjoy this winter very much.
